Hi, I am a newbie. When it comes to resale value, always wonder, for example, whether ‘DivorceLawyers’ or ‘BostonDivorceLawyers’ will be more valuable? Also, does singular or plural form (lawyer or lawyers) make a difference? Any advice?

    Dan,

Good question – resale value will change depending on who you speak with.

If you’re a newbie then trying to define a logical pattern for domain sales will keep you up at night. There truly is very little rhyme or reason with domain values excluding premium names like mortgage.com, realestate.com etc…

I’ve seen domains like the ones above go for thousands of dollars – In fact, view this link….

Can you see any rhyme or reason?

If so, write a book and make your millions.

Obviously shorter is better and if you own DivorceLaywers.com, DivorceLawyer.com, DivorceAttorney.com or DivorceAttorneys.com you have the cream of the crop for the divorce arena.

Investment wise any of the names listed above are worth much more than the reserve prices but you have to find the right buyer, the right venue and the right time. People always speak about end users and if you own a good name than most likely at some point it will sell to an end user but defining a good name is also a huge challenge for many domainers. If you ask anybody that buys names most will say they have to weed through 99% of crap to find one gem and its true.

Even we have bought names that never really had any value as our knowledge of the difference between a “cool” name versus a “valuable” name has grown but again, whats not cool for us may be cool for someone else.

As far as reselling to domain investors you need to find entry points that you are comfortable with and don’t expect liquidity overnight but for those that hold or find the right venue and the right buyer at the right time it will pay off.

Hope the link above confused you more – welcome to the club :-)

I appreciate your advice and thanks for sending the legal names sales listing. There is really almost no pattern and you are absolutely right – it all depends on how bad the buyer want the name! I enjoyed reading your blog and always found wisdom!!
