DEBT domains & deals on SNAP / You need to SEARCH better
By Alan on Jul 14, 2009 in SnapNames
Few can argue that auction mentality for buying domains is far different than purchasing names listed on venues with buy it now prices however deals exist – sometimes far better deals than anything you can find in auction.
Fact is SOOO many domains sell between $1000-$5000 in drop auctions every week yet many names of much higher value, brandability and development value sit just waiting – on the SAME venues – for someone to search for them.
For those of you who don’t already know (and those who forget) Fabulous and BuyDomains all have API feeds into the SnapNames inventory and although Snap’s promotion of their BIN inventory still needs a lot more promotion from their sales team you will be surprised how many great names are in the inventory.
Take the keyword Debt Consolidation for example.
One of the best industries around for online development, lead generation and growth in today’s economic environment. You will not see these names on drop lists and sure – some cost 2-3k but these are prices you would see in live auctions for many of these if not more and if you are a developer then the prices will surely attract you.
We do not own any of these names but its about time somebody puts these to use instead of wasting money on .me’s and silly domains that drop in hope of making a couple bucks on PPC traffic (so 1999 people).
Examples from SnapNames inventory using the keyword “debt”
baddebtcollection.com
consumerdebt.net
debtcollectionrights.com
debtcollector.net
debtelimination.org
debtmanagementloans.com
debtsettlementlawyer.net
debtsettlementprogram.net
Of course, not everyone agrees with me about what makes a good name but I came from the development world so the quality of names we value are names that have value to (a) development, (b) end-users (c) lead generation (d) high growth or large market consumer industries and many other factors. Parking stats .. well, move on and learn how to develop – only then will you understand how $2,000, $5000 or $10,000 for a domain is dirt cheap.
Enjoy the list and remember – punch in any keyword at snap – you may be just surprised what you find in the buy it now section. Alternatively, you can continue doing what you’re doing as others pass you by.

Hi Alan,
I appreciate the development twist in many of your blog posts.
Although not really on-topic to this post, a blog comment from ‘Mark’ on June 11 in your TLD/Keyword Domains post has really stuck with me, and I was hoping you could elaborate on your reaction to his advice for newbies about building out hundreds of minisites.
Although the “plan” is a shitload of work, I’ve got no problem with that, and I know I can find enough domain names to fit that common product/1000 searches/$1+CPC criteria – either via hand reg, or for a nominal purchase price. What pitfalls do you see to the “plan’s” viability?
Quite frankly, I fear Google, and the possibility that a couple hundred sites into this plan, they’ll say, “hey, this company/individual surely can’t be producing that many quality sites…..they must be spam…..let’s just de-index everything they own”.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Aaron,
thanks – great question!
I’m going to write a post about my thoughts on this in the next day or two. A lot of different scenarios in place here but yes, you are on to something here that actually has happened to people before.
will update a comment here when its live.

Alan,
Great post…keep them coming! I did notice that a lot of good names were being listed from BuyDomains on Snap, but I didn’t realize that Fabulous was also selling names there…and the names that I’ve been seeing are really good quality!
I found a few this week listed under bin (buy it now), which I believe were priced just right (and I didn’t have to look through a drop list:-)).

I actually bought http://www.debtsettlementprogram.net after becoming aware of the name on your site. I am very happy I did. The site will be complete in the next couple weeks and will be used to generate debt settlement leads. I think I have done a very good job of developing it and figure that my biggest downside is that I can sell it in the future. Do you think that is correct?
