Rick Schwartz – He’s on Your Side …..
By Alan on Sep 8, 2008 in Rick Schwartz
Rick Schwartz. Love him or hate him you gotta respect him. Elliot posted an article about people commenting on the sale of RoomDividers.com and how some people are personally attacking Rick.
I will be the first to say that I don’t agree with everything Rick has to say but guess what … I don’t agree with everything you (insert any name here) have to say. For better or worse Rick has:
- the balls to speak his mind when others stay silent
- works his ass off to put together conferences for ALL domainers (and no – these are not just get togethers for his cronies – they are for you and me and anyone else interested in domains including investors)
- Continually sells premium and not so premium domains (by domainer standards) to end users for vast amounts boasting not only the DNJournal sales charts but also the industry in general (every time he does this he boosts the value of your names)
- Is open to helping anyone anywhere, anytime
- And many more POSITIVE points….
No matter how much you love him or hate him no other person has the voice, longevity and following Rick has. Remember, love him or hate him you still follow every word he has to say. For that reason and that reason only he is the “king” of this industry. It does not matter what side of the fence you are on – you have to respect the man for what he has done to promote this industry.
People always ask me what I think of Rick and I can personally say I don’t know – because much like MANY of you I have not had a chance to enjoy a beer (or seventeen) with the guy. His opinions are sometimes right on the money – while other times they are a bit far fetched. Sometime his salesmanship is a little overdone and then sometimes I secretly wonder where he is – but again, these are his opinions and I welcome any and all opinions from everyone.
A man with no opinions is … I’m not sure – but he is not a man, I know that for sure.
Rick is not only a founding and ever present member of the domain community but he also commands respect because he wants to see everyone do well in this industry. Like him or not – Rick is on your side!
It’s time to grow up and stop the personal attacks. How can anybody use a personal attack when they really don’t know someone is beyond me?
Some hold personal opinions about people like Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson as well. You don’t even know these people either….You know an image on TV… People, it’s not real – it’s all a show!
When you know these people (and not meet them on the street or at a work event) then you have a right to forming a personal opinion.
The decision to voice it is simply a matter of class.
What did Mom always say – if you do not have something good to say then …. (we all different moms)
Back to Rick – if you have educated opinions that relate to industry issues then make them but as mike commented on Elliot’s blog …
“Personal attacks are inversely proportional to IQ”
He is right.
Without Rick, this industry – you and me – would not be where we are today and for that my friends, he deserves personal respect regardless of your opinions on domain related topics.

P.S. Anybody writing personal attacks is probably not going to change by reading one or two posts on this topic anyway but it is nice to tell people to fuck off every now and then
….. Moving on….

Agreed. Rick is more important than most people realize in this industry. without Rick the industry would probably be 5-7 years behind or not exist at all.

Very true – some people forget about this or just haven’t been around to see all he has done.

The guy’s abrasive but look at his track record, right on the money, again and again.
I’ve been known to be abrasive when people ask my professional opinion and then tell me “well I disagree…” Great, then why did you ask me? I never asked for your opinion. This is what Rick deals with day in and day out.
