We know how that story ended yet these were pinpointed industries that supposedly would have benefited most from specific TLD's. The only tiny problem was that no one wanted them. I just don't get what makes anyone out there think that this will be any different -- especially since .COM has now had so much longer to permeate every aspect of our lives. And, on top of that, the new gTLD's won't roll out until 2014, giving .COM even more time to solidify itself as the de facto standard!!!
