$50k a month – Have you started yet?

5 years is a long time in the world of technology but success is just as easy today as it was only five years ago. Get some decent domains, develop them and build content. This industry is not rocket science and thankfully so since many of you certainly would not pass the test but hey – where else in the world can you work remotely, create something new and get paid for it each and every day. Do it right – by creating a service or content that people need – versus arbitrage and trying to have people click only never to return.

A little while back somebody questioned who we were and seemed to be confused with our company name since it can be a little misleading to suggest something of a newcomer in the industry. As I’ve said before we really don’t give a shit what anybody thinks but we do like to pose questions, encourage thought and tonight relay real numbers for just one of our successes over the past 10 years to help motivate people to develop more.

Timeline … back to 2004.

At this point in time we only had maybe 30 sites running so imagine if you were to properly SEO all your names today and have a little bit of patience until the traffic started coming then you did (what most fail to do) – concentrate on building more content, tweaking the links and connecting the network of content you set out to do. We had a plan – a plan that involved a specific market area and not 200 sites all with different topics. The key is to connect the dots and build something you can build properly. No One is a master of all content on the web (or offline for that matter) so the more sites you have which surround entirely different topics the harder it is for you to actually put them all together.

But wait – I own 500 names and need to develop them all?

Who cares – its almost like giving a kid 10 cookies and he must eat them all. We are adults, not children. Pick your topics and develop around them – don’t develop because you have to or it seems to be the success of the moment. As the old expression states “Pick your battles” – same applies to development. Choose the storyboard that fits your knowledge, your interest and your ability to provide – when it all comes together it is so much more rewarding than having 200 sites on different topics that you still have no idea about.

What about those 500 sites … pick the 30 around the topic you feel is best suited to you – park the rest for now.

How good can it be?

Well, these were some of our Adsense payments in 2004 … and it wasn’t even close to our biggest revenue piece. 6 years later, you do the math – we are not newbies for those doubters out there.

Hopefully it inspires a person or two to get off thier ass and develop.

This is what all of us are planing to get to Alan

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and information with us all.

My Adsense is quite at that yet but growing steady every day.

Out of interest how many sites do you guys operate now?

You may have told us before but Im very interested to know and also is your monthly income just from Adsense or do you look at affilates also?

Man, I would love to share more but we really limit what we talk about in relation to our business – I know, its not the answer you want but we do try and post as much as we can in relation to thoughts based on experience so hopefully some of it helps you get to the levels you’re looking for.

I can say that direct relationships with advertisers and programs outside of Adsense will ultimately lead to more riches than sticking with Google but one usually has to go the Google route first.

Google provides real time access to an ad inventory which is great.. If you got the traffic, you put up AdSense, set and forget. I like this a lot.

Once you get serious about your business though, you go directly where the money is by cutting out all the middlemen.

You really gotta offer something of value at the end of the day though to advertisers.

A few hundred uniques per month or even a few thousand.. It won’t cut it. It won’t interest too many advertisers or keep them around for good.

Once you got some quality sites that are well established and with a lot of activity… That is when you get to work with the ad sales.

Who wasn’t making mid 5 figures a month with AdSense in 2004? Show me those same figures for 2008-2009, and I’ll be impressed.

    David,

Nothing I write is ever meant to impress – just contributing for people who want to believe in this space.

Be a hater – as I said above, do not give a shit. This information – circa 2004 or not – is simply fuel to kickstart someone (anyone) into developing more. Its not meant for the people who already know what they are doing.

Someone give this guy a hug.

David – must give you credit. You are making me laugh.

Congrats on the 400,000 sites – is your last name Google by the way :-)

Have a good weekend – As long as haters make me laugh you’re alright in my book.

Alan, impressive stats! I’m at the beginning of my journey towards developing websites making money from ads, mainly Adsense right now. After developing 30-40 websites (even crappy ones) revenue increased about $10 per day. In a few years I hope to make 50% of my income from my websites. :)

What explains the 50% decline from May to June?

  13. Alan | Apr 19, 2009 | Reply

    Holla,

No idea .. it was 4 years ago but its never been our sole source of revenue. We were earning money online way before Adsense so probably trying something different or Google simply needed more money for bean chairs that month.

Most people talk and talk but never do anything.
If you want something done I suggest you start by planning it out and making sure you have all the skills required. If I knew how hard it would be I might not have started. I finished my first two sites, http://sellsheets.com and http://animalpump.com and I will never go back to parking. Parked domains can not make you money. Develop your domains and seo them.
